the twelve cards

Posted in life in Taiwan by I-Wen Lee on July 31, 2011

I-Wen Lee was born in July and her star sign is cancer. It was so sweet that there were many colleagues celebrated with her at PEGA Design living room. Not only she had her favorite taro cake, but also i-wen was given the lovely handmade birthday cards by a cute girl April. (who wore shinny orange t-shirt in the below photo)

By asked some of i-wen’s colleagues, April got the ideas of the birthday card which are hand-writing and useful function. Therefore, she kept the limit time of deadline and then started to draw day by day. Sometimes she also had to be careful because I-Wen might pass her seat and found the hint of cards. kkk….

The twelve cards  are simply like a story board. After April explained, I-Wen knew that they can be the calendar and the starting month is July (her birth month). April also marked the important date on it which remind I-Wen as well. Most of people were impress of the time consuming works of she did. That’s why I-Wen may keep it. Thanks April and Thank all the wishes behind the cards.

The Delight of Chinese Character Exhibition

Posted in life in Taiwan by I-Wen Lee on July 31, 2011

During the exhibition, we could find out how interesting the Chinese words they are. For instance, my Chinese name i-wen 懿玟, 玟(wen) can be separated to 王(wang) and 文 (wen). 王 is equal to ‘king’ and 文 means ‘composition’. Perhaps western people think Chinese is difficult to learn, but I feel that is the way to understand the creation of words.

Exhibiting in Taiwan Designer’s Week 10

Posted in life in Taiwan by I-Wen Lee on September 10, 2010

This interesting manufacturing process touched me a lot. Whatever the outcome it is, it is an unique design work. If it is a kind of plastic ejection, perhaps it is a super slow way to build up the furniture. It will become meaningful if it is made by users. The stool may not be perfact and beautiful. However, it tells lots of stories.

comment by director Wei Lang Lee  from afterain design studio        ↑middle one

The legs of stool are like stalactites. Let people has the feeling that is stitting on natural rock and the image of spectacular landscape made in thousands of year. Let people reflect the busy and anxious life which we lived nowadays. Whether the thoughts settled as time goes by or not?

comment by director Sean Lin  from TOAST Living

More than two years ago, one of my friends sent me the post card from Ronchamp. The picture has become my wallpaper on desktop for a long time. I believe that most of design students have read this pictures in design textbook before, but few people has been there. It is a long journry to visit this architure. Worth! I think I will be proud to say that I have visited Ronchamp than I have been to Paris.( I did start the journey from Paris Est.)

I had so much fun when I went back to Taiwan this X’mas holiday. Besides, it was my pleasure to be invited to share the Design&Travel experiece to my junior classmates at  Tatung University, where I did  BSC Industrial design degree last year . It started from my first 10 days trip in London, and than visited the furniture fair in Milan during the course, did the internship in Germany and traveled  around Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Venice and so on. If I had unlimited time control, I would like to talk more and more stories about the postgraduate life at Central Saint Martins or interesting and horrible things from my traveling around Europe. Thanks to Yung-Hsiang Tu and all the participator!
